Built by Someone Who’s Been Exactly Where You Are
July 2000. I fainted on a Bucharest bus. I was working at Elle Magazine — glamorous title, exhausted body, empty life. Two days later my sister called about a temporary job on a river cruise ship. I almost said no.
My first welcome speech? I cried in front of 150 American guests. Twice in my first years, I was nearly fired. Nobody told me this was going to be hard.
That’s exactly why I built this.
I didn’t want other people to feel that way. So I started training people. Then mentoring them. Then creating spaces where they could find each other.
People need people in hospitality.
Your first day on a ship is terrifying. Your first crisis will test everything you’ve got. But if you have people around you who’ve been there and survived it? Everything changes.

Will you spam me with messages?
No. The main group has a clear rhythm: Monday motivation, Wednesday wisdom, Friday Q&A — plus job alerts when they appear. Nothing random. Nothing pushy. And you control your notifications: mute anytime you need quiet.
What if I’m not ready to decide about the Academy?
Perfect. That’s exactly why the community exists. No pressure. No one here is going to “sell” you. You can explore the community for months, learn about the industry, meet people, build confidence — and only decide about the Academy when you’re genuinely ready.
I have no experience in hospitality — is this for me?
Yes. Absolutely. The community is for anyone interested in river cruise careers. Some members are experienced hotel managers. Others are first-year baristas curious about the industry. All are welcome. Your unique background is an asset, not a liability.
What’s the difference between the main group and the other spaces?
The main group, River Cruise Careers, is open to everyone — you send a join request and our team approves it. The other three are private: the Graduates Network (Academy graduates only), Current Students (enrolled students only) and Affiliate Partners (approved affiliates only). They open up as your journey moves on.
I’m worried I’ll get overwhelmed by notifications.
You won’t. WhatsApp lets you mute notifications per group. Mute the community when you’re busy. Check it weekly if you want. Come back when you have capacity. This is supposed to energise you, not stress you.
Will I get spam or links to sketchy products?
Never. The community has clear guidelines: no spam, no self-promotion (except approved job posts from real companies), no political or religious debates, no sketchy offers. This is a safe, curated space — not the Wild West.
What if I have a specific question about the Academy?
